Initial Machine Setup Checklist

Initial Machine Setup Checklist

Before starting production on any industrial sewing machine or automated equipment supplied by AE Sewing Machines, it is important to complete a full initial setup and verification process.

Carrying out these checks helps ensure safe operation, consistent stitch quality, and reliable performance from the outset. Skipping setup steps can lead to avoidable faults, poor results, or unnecessary downtime.

Remove Transit Packaging and Securing Brackets

Industrial sewing machines are shipped with protective packaging and securing components to prevent movement during transport.

Before powering on the machine:

  • Remove all transit packaging materials

  • Remove any securing brackets, bolts, or restraints used for transport

  • Check that all moving parts are free to operate

Failure to remove transport restraints may cause damage when the machine is powered on.

Thread the Machine Correctly

Thread the machine carefully using the supplied threading diagram.

Ensure that:

  • Thread follows the correct path

  • Guides and tension points are correctly engaged

  • The correct thread type is used for the application

Incorrect threading is one of the most common causes of early operational issues and stitch faults.

Check Oil Levels and Lubrication

If applicable to your machine:

  • Check oil levels are within the recommended range

  • Inspect lubrication points

  • Confirm that automatic lubrication systems (if fitted) are functioning correctly

Operating a machine without proper lubrication can cause premature wear or damage.

Connect Power and Peripheral Equipment

Once mechanical checks are complete:

  • Connect the machine to the appropriate power supply

  • Connect any peripherals or accessories, such as control panels or automation components

  • Ensure all connections are secure before powering on

Electrical connections should only be made once the machine is fully prepared.

Run a Test Stitch

Before beginning production:

  • Use scrap material that matches the intended application

  • Run the machine at a reduced speed

  • Check stitch quality, tension, and consistency

Make any necessary adjustments before proceeding.

Begin Production Only When Results Are Satisfactory

Only begin full production once:

  • The machine operates smoothly

  • Stitch quality meets requirements

  • No unusual noise or vibration is present

Taking time to verify setup before production reduces rework, material waste, and downtime.

Why Initial Setup Matters

Completing an initial setup checklist helps ensure:

  • Safe and compliant operation

  • Consistent product quality

  • Reduced risk of early faults

  • Longer machine lifespan

AE Sewing Machines recommends completing all setup checks before starting production on any new or recently installed equipment.
